HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston broke open a close game with a three-run sixth inning to complete a non-conference series sweep of Abilene Christian with a 6-1 victory at Bearkat Softball Complex on Saturday.
The Bearkats have won three games in a row to improve to 9-9 on the season after taking care of the Wildcats, a familiar face Sam Houston played regularly in the Southland Conference and WAC.
A day after taking a doubleheader which saw the Kats score 18 runs on 18 hits, ACU was the first to strike with a lead-off solo home run to begin the first inning.
It was all Sam Houston after that.
The Bearkats took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.
Tricia Yarotsky tied it with a sacrifice fly to right that brought in
Morgan Holliday, who led off with an infield single.
Ellie Grill laced an RBI double to left center to push the lead to 2-1.
That was plenty of support for freshman
Abigail Young in the circle. She went all seven innings, allowing just four hits to improve to 2-3.
The final three runs came in the sixth on an RBI double by Yarotsky, and a two-run double to left center by
Allie Saville.
The Kats will welcome Baylor to Huntsville for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
