HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston softball team dropped the opener of a three-game Conference USA series 4-0 to the Liberty Flames on Friday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
Sam Houston (11-17, 0-7) was unable to grab its first CUSA win in program history in game one. Despite having five hits by Tricia Yarotsky, Julia Herzinger, Elia Hebel, Ellie Grill and Haleigh Carter, the Bearkats could not capitalize to bring the runner's home.
Mika Vento went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs in the loss.
The Bearkats will look to even the series Saturday with game two. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 and set to be aired on ESPN+.
