BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Sam Houston softball squad closed out a three-game Conference USA series with a 5-1 loss to Western Kentucky on Saturday at WKU Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (12-23, 1-11 CUSA) failed to avoid the sweep having dropped the first two games by identical 3-1 margins.
For the second consecutive game,
Elia Hebel got Sam Houston going early at the plate. She ripped another solo home run for a quick 1-0 lead.
Like the previous game, the Hilltoppers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first off starting pitcher
Amy Abke to move in front.
The Bearkats' solid start at the plate once again stalled out. Sam Houston was unable to scratch across another run and managed just two more hits over the final six innings.
Western Kentucky was able to add insurance runs in the second, third and fifth innings to put the game out of reach.
Sam Houston does not have a midweek game so next up for the Bearkats will be at home against Middle Tennessee April 5-7.
