MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – With only four players available for action due to injuries, the Sam Houston women's tennis team completed its 2024 regular season schedule with a 5-2 non-conference victory over Tennessee-Southern.

The contest was played at the Middle Tennessee Courts Saturday.

Senior Paula Cerda, sophomore Vianne Schwab and freshmen India Fenieys and Roberta Sechi all posted singles victories as the Bearkats earned their eighth dual match win of the season.

Cerda upped her overall season singles record to 15-10 by defeating Victoria Sanches 6-0, 6-0 at the number one position. Cerda stands 12-4 in dual match play this spring playing at the number one and two spots.

Fenieys handed Otone Odajima a 6-0, 6-2 loss at number two. She completes regular season action with an 8-6 season won-lost mark.

Roberta Sechi split sets with Emely Castro at number three and had to earn the match victory in a 10-point tie-breaker for a 6-4, 6-7, 10-5
win.

Vianne Schwab posted the match-winning victory at number four with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Sienna Ruberto.

Sam Houston started the day taking the doubles point with wins at the one and two positions.

Schwab and Sechi defeated Emely Castro and Leovanna Viamonte 6-3 at number one. Cerda and Fenieys topped Otone Odajima and Ven-Ju Chang 6-2 at the two spot.

Sam Houston's trip to Tennessee began Friday with a 4-1 loss to Middle Tennesse State Saturday afternoon. The Bearkats had to forfeit both the number five and six singles contests and the number three doubles.

Next up for the Bearkats is the Conference USA Tournament in Miami, Fla., The event which will decide the CUSA representative in the NCAA playoffs begins Thursday, April 18.
