SERIES NOTES vs McNEESE
- Sam Houston owns a 63-28 advantage in the all-time series with McNeese, including a 36-24 mark in Lake Charles.
- The Kats blasted the Cowboys in a midweek game last season in Huntsville, winning 18-6. Easton Loyd was the big catalyst in that game, going 4-for-6 with a career-best seven RBI.
- SHSU will be looking for its first win in Lake Charles since sweeping the Cowboys in a Southland Conference weekend series in 2018.
BEARKAT NOTES FOR TUESDAY
- Sam Houston is 6-5 in midweek games in 2024, but its a clean split between home and away. The Kats are 6-0 this season in midweeks played at Don Sanders Stadium while they are 0-5 in midweeks away from home.
- Lefty Michael Watson was named CUSA Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon following 7.0 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts in Saturday's win over WKU.
- Walker Janek has thrown out 12 of 21 attempted base stealers this season, and is doing it at the plate as well. He has homered in four of his last five games and now has a team-high 11 longballs on the year.
- The 11 blasts give him 31 for his career, which puts him all alone in third place all-time at SHSU. Each of the two players ahead of him played four years for the Bearkats.
- Jake Tatom will take a 12-game hit streak into Tuesday. He has 16 hits over his last six games.
A LOOK AT THE COWBOYS
- McNeese will be looking to get right on its home turf after having dropped each of its last six games following a sweep at the hands of UIW over the weekend.
- They are 5-4 in midweek games in 2024, and have tested their mettle on the weekends with two of their weekends being against Texas A&M and Arkansas who are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the nation currently.
- Offensively they sport just two hitters with averages better than .300 in Braden Duhon and Conner Westerburg. It is Westerburg who supplies the bulk of the power numbers with team highs of five homers and 26 RBI.
