Watson named CUSA Pitcher of the Week

DALLAS – Sam Houston senior Michael Watson was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on Monday, per a release from league officials. Â
Watson's honor is his first of the year and marks the third time this season a Bearkat has gotten the nod with teammate Coltin Atkinson having done so twice.Â
The Glen Rose native earned the honor after turning in his best performance as a Bearkat on Saturday, getting his second consecutive win in leading the Kats to a 10-0 win over WKU to even the weekend series. Â
Watson went all 7.0 innings of the run-rule affair, allowing just three baserunners on a single, walk and a hit batter while striking out 10, the most by any Bearkat pitcher since February of 2022. He is 2-0 in his last two starts with just four hits allowed, 17 strikeouts and only two walks issued.Â
He and the rest of the Bearkats will next head to Lake Charles, La., on Tuesday for a midweek game at McNeese before returning home to open a three-game series with Middle Tennessee on Friday at Don Sanders Stadium.
