Kats in front after Day 1 of ULM Invitational

MONROE, La. — The Sam Houston women's golf team sits atop the leaderboard with a 6-shot advantage over the rest of the field after the first day of the ULM Invitational at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club.Â
The Kats fired team scores of 287 and 291 in each of the first two rounds on Monday, the lowest totals of each tour of the 18-hole course. They lead Arkansas State by six shots entering Tuesday's final round.Â
Sam Houston snagged the lead without the aid of its lowest score of the day, coming from Amelia Guo who is playing the week as a medalist. The freshman fired rounds of 68-73 and is in a tie for fourth overall, three shots off the pace set by Southern Miss' Jacee Fields. Â
Even though Guo's score shows up only as an individual, the Kats still have three other individuals under par for the day. Jenn David, Zulaikah Nasser and Viera Permata Rosada all are in a tie for eighth place at one under par. David and Rosada both fired rounds of 70-73, while Nasser flipped that order with a day of 73-70.Â
Jen Herbst also sits in a tie for 33rd with rounds of 75-75 and Grace Jin turned in rounds of 74-77. Â
The Kats will be going for their fifth team title of the season on Tuesday with a shotgun start set to begin at 8:30 a.m.Â
