MONROE, La. — The Sam Houston women's golf team won their third tournament in a row and fifth this season as it finished as the only team under par on Tuesday when it claimed the title at the ULM Invitational at Bayou DeSiard Country Club. Â
The Kats finished with the lowest team scores in each of the tournament's three rounds after putting together a 282 in Round 3, its best of the week. That effort dropped the Kats to –4 for the tournament as they ran away from the 12-team field to win by 19 shots. Â
Despite playing as an individual, freshman Amelia Guo turned in the best finish among the Bearkats by coming in a tie for third at –4 for the tournament. She fired rounds of 68 and 73 on Monday before carding a 71 in Round 3, a round which included an eagle on the Par-4 12th hole. Â
Jenn David finished in sixth place and was the only other Bearkat under par for the week, finishing at –1 for the tournament after closing with a round of 73. Viera Permata Rosada also turned in a round of 73 on Tuesday to finish at even par for the week and in a tie for seventh.Â
Grace Jin rebounded from a difficult second round on Monday to turn in the best round in the field on Tuesday, rocketing up the leaderboard into a finish of 13th place overall after a round of 67 which included six birdies and a single bogey. Â
Rosada also registered a top-10 finish with a final round of 73, tying for seventh. Jenn Herbst finished her week with a 75 to end in a tie for 21st.Â
The week in Monroe wraps up pre-conference play for Sam Houston as they will now take two weeks away from competition before taking part in the program's first Conference USA Championship, April 15-17. The championship will be held not far from Huntsville, at High Meadow Ranch GC in Magnolia.
