HUNTSVILLE — As the regular season comes to a close, Sam Houston will host No. 11 Texas A&M in the second-to-last non-conference game of the season at Bearkat Softball Complex on Wednesday.
The Bearkats (17-26) will get a solid test from the Aggies (37-9) as Sam Houston enters the stretch run of the season. The Kats have just six Conference USA game left on the schedule as they look to nail down a spot in the league tournament.
Sam Houston battled Texas A&M in a game closer than the score, a 7-3 Bearkat loss, earlier this season. The Aggies swung the momentum in their favor with a five-run third inning.
The Kats made it a three-run game in the fifth only to see the Aggies eventually put the game out of reach with a two-run blast in the sixth.
Freshman
Amy Abke, who has emerged as Sam Houston's top pitcher with eight wins, tossed two scoreless, no-hit innings in relief as one of the highlights in the previous meeting between the schools. Senior
Kylie Hobbs had one of her best outings at the plate this season in the setback, going 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and the game will be streamed online on ESPN+.
