HUNTSVILLE – Eleventh-ranked Texas A&M jumped on Sam Houston early to come away with a 11-0 victory in six innings at Bearkat Softball Complex on Wednesday evening.
The Aggies started off the first inning with a three-run homer and brought home another on an error off starting pitcher Abigail Young. Just like that the Bearkats were in a 4-0 hole before stepping to the plate.
Sam Houston couldn't answer in the bottom of the first, but Mika Vento came on in relief of Young with two outs in the second and held Texas A&M off the board over the next inning and a third.
The Aggies broke through again with a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run double off the top of the wall in left. The mercy rule went into effect following a five-run sixth inning.
Morgan Holliday was the only Bearkat to record a hit in the loss as Texas A&M starter Shaylee Ackerman went the distance in the circle to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Sam Houston returns to action this weekend with a three-game Conference USA series at FIU.
