BRYAN, Texas – Viera Permata Rosada caught fire on Tuesday, firing a round of 65 to surge up the individual leaderboard on the second day of the NCAA Bryan Regional at Traditions Golf Club.Â
Her round of 65 is the lowest single round in the tournament field to date and the lowest ever for a Bearkat in NCAA Tournament play. It paced the Bearkats' second day on the course and has them tied for eighth with Maryland in the 12-team field.Â
Rosada bogeyed No. 10, her first hole of the day, before birdying half of her next 16 holes to move up 39 spots into a tie for seventh. Birdies at Nos. 11 and 14 quickly had her under par for the round and she really got going with a birdie on No. 17, starting a stretch of five birdies in her next six holes. Â
She is tied for seventh through 36 holes of play at -2 and is now squarely in the mix for advancement as an individual, which she will be looking to do for the second time in her career after having also done so in 2022. Each of the top five teams in the regional field will advance to the NCAA Championships, in addition to the top individual finisher from a non-advancing team.
Currently SMU, Clemson, Texas A&M and LSU are in prime position to advance as the only teams under par through two rounds. Ohio State (+7) and Vanderbilt (+9) are poised to battle it out for the fifth and final team advancing slot after Wednesday's final round with Iowa State (+14) five shots back.Â
Of the players currently tied or ahead of Rosada, only Kansas State's Carla Bernat (-3), Ohio State's Kary Hollenbaugh (-2) and Vanderbilt's Virginie Ding (-5) are on teams not currently in the top four. Â
Rosada was not the only Kat to fire a round under par as Jenn David carded a round of 71. She also started out on No. 10 and after firing even par midway through her round, birdied Nos. 1 and 5 before giving one back with a bogey on her final hole of the day. Â
She sits in a tie for 36th overall at +6 while Grace Jin is in 33rd place after backing up her opening round of 74 with a 75 on Tuesday. Zulaikah Nasser turned in an 80 and is tied for 54th and Jennifer Herbst is tied for 58th after a second round of 79.Â
The Kats will tee off for Round 3 of the Bryan Regional at 8:50 a.m. from Traditions. Sam Houston will be paired with Iowa State and Maryland. Â
Scores will be updated throughout the round on Golf Stat.
