HUNTSVILLE — Head coach Brad Hagen and the nationally ranked Sam Houston bowling program is pleased to announce the addition of Miya Greene for the 2024-25 season.
The San Antonio native is the first ever Dexter All-American signee to join the Bearkats. The Dexter All-American award is given to five high school males and females annually. The prestigious accolade as a Dexter High School All-American Team is based on bowling accomplishments, academic achievement, letters of recommendation and extracurricular/community involvement.
"Miya possesses a lot of the key elements and checks a lot of the boxes we're looking for from academics to competitive discipline," Hagen said. "I see a lot of passion and willingness to learn and that's huge. She's traveled all over the U.S. competing at a very high level, having success which has made her become who she is today."
Over the last year and half, Greene has achieved an abundance of success on the lanes as well as off. The 2024 Brennan High School standout was recently selected to go into the Texas State USBC Hall of Honor. Coming off another great high school year, she was a quarter finalist at the high school state championships back in March and the 2024 City USBC City Greater San Antonio Champion in the Scratch Division.
The 2023 San Antonio Female Bowler of the Year checked several major accolades that included a top 4 finish at the PBA Junior National Qualifier in Georgia, a Junior Gold Finalist run that landed her 13th in the U18 girls division out of nearly 600 competitors, a final-four finish at the 2023 Texas Queens event competing against the state's best females, rolled her way to the High Average Female for the 23-24 season Northside High School Bowling District, as well as the 2022-2023 High Average Youth Female Texas State USBC.
"At the end of the day we need individuals who are going to push themselves every day without reservation in the classroom and on the lanes," Hagen said. "I believe Miya has a strong understanding of what this opportunity means to her, her family, and a new outlook for what she wants, as well as what she's aspiring to become. Miya's enthusiasm and excitement will be a key asset to her development and this team's success."
Greene, who graduated magna cum laude, will look to continue her education within the bio-medical field and enters as the first-ever Bearkat bowler already possessing her certification as a pharmacy technician.
