SAN ANTONIO — The Sam Houston volleyball team finished out the UTSA tournament with a 3-2 loss to the hosting Roadrunners at the Convocation Center on Saturday.
The Bearkats (4-5) fell to UTSA 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 18-16. Sam Houston finished the weekend with 1-3 loss to Alabama and 3-0 win over Central Arkansas.
The Roadrunners took the lead early looking to sweep the Bearkats, but they were not going down easy as they went on a 6-1 run that led to a 25-22 victory in the third set. McKenzie Morvant had six kills in the fourth set to help keep the Kats hopes alive.
The Bearkats kept the momentum going as they forced a fifth set where they lost in extra points to the Roadrunners 18-16.
Morvant, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the team with 18 kills and seven blocks. Lylah Washington and Chelsea Butler both had five kills as well.
Sam Houston will return home to host their second tournament of the season on Friday.
