Kats open 2024-25 season in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – Sam Houston teed off on a new season this week, finishing 12th at the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday at Coldstream Country Club. Â
The 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Cincinnati, saw the Bearkats finish at +20 for the week, five shots back of Kentucky but still ahead of a pair of Big 12 schools in Memphis and UCF. Louisville took the team tournament title as the lone school under par at –6, while the host Cincinnati Bearcats were second at even par.Â
Gene Chaikangwal was the low scorer of the week for the Kats, firing rounds of 71-71-73 to finish tied for 17th overall at +2 on the Par-71 course measuring 7,111 yards. Hugo Trommeter was next for the Kats in a tie for 36th, going 73-71-75 for the week.Â
Other finishes include Josh German in 54th, (74-72-75), Bret Gray in 60th (72-76-74) and Alex Malanga in 76th despite opening the week with a 69, the Kats' low round of the tournament.Â
Sam Houston will have quick turnarounds with two more tournaments in two weeks, beginning with the GitRDone Invitational next week at Firethorn GC in Lincoln, Neb. Â
One week later the Kats will return to Texas for the Bayou City Collegiate at Westwood GC in Houston.
