ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling finished with a flurry to place in the top four at the Prairie View Invitational in the final round of competition at the ITRC on Sunday.
The Bearkats added another win to go 9-2 which was good enough to place second with 11,821 pins. Jacksonville State was first, Vanderbilt placed third, North Carolina A&T was fourth and Arkansas State rounded out the top five.
This morning, we picked up right where we left off throwing a big set and moving up to the two seed but once we jumped to the other end we couldn't put it together the rest of the day," head coach Brad Hagen said. "With this scoring pace how it was all weekend and the traffic being pretty defined, you just couldn't leave any holes (open frames) because it literally could be a 30-50 pin swing before you even through another shot. We were on the good end of that all weekend and today we put ourselves in a hole we couldn't quite get out of. We scored decently but a few too many mistakes became costly at the end."
Denise Blankenzee finished third in the individual standings after another stellar weekend. She earned all-tournament honors after averaging 232.50 pins.
"A great weekend overall and one we should build off from," Hagen added. "This team can compete, and we are who we are because we can, so we need to keep taking the steps forward daily needed to get where we want to go. Habits, rituals, routines, need to be as confident as they are simple. We'll use this week to work on what is needed."
