COLLEGE STATION – The Sam Houston men's and women's cross country teams will try to improve their marks at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday for their final tune-up meet before the Conference USA Championships.
The men will take to the 8,000-meter course at 8:30 a.m. The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 9:15 a.m.
The Bearkats will be competing against Abilene Christian, Arizona State, Arkansas State, Baylor, Boise State, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, Colorado (women), Delaware (women), Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Gonzaga, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana, McNeese, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, NM State, New Orleans, Nicholls, North Dakota, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Rice, SMU (women), Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Texarkana, Tarleton, TCU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Texas Tech, UT-Arlington, UTSA and Youngstown State.
Last season, the men's team finished 17th with an average time of 24:06.72 just behind North Texas. Mario Ruiz looks to lead the team after finishing 84th with a time of 24:03.2. The women's team finished 36th with an average time of 22:18.06. Ami Clark led the team finishing 188th with a time of 21:53.6.
