
Kats in eighth after Day 1 of Border Olympics

LAREDO – The Sam Houston men's golf team will go into the final day of the Border Olympics in eighth plays at +20 overall after 36 holes of play at Laredo Country Club on Monday.
The Bearkats shot +7 in round one and hit +13 in round two. Hugo Trommetter came in leading the Kats in the first round with -1, 6 birdies on the round. Josh German just behind him with +1 shooting 72. Gene Chaikangwal showed off his consistency shooting 73-73 and is the leader for the Kats going into round three.
Trommetter opened the chilly morning with a pair of bogeys but cleaned up nicely with two back-to-back birdies on the front and back nine finishing 18 holes with 70 (-1). German went 72-75 on his scorecard with +5 alongside Bret Gray. Gray had a slow start to the round one with 76 but shot even (71) in the second round. Chaikangwal ended the day +4 and a 19th individual placing so far.
Ethan Dufresne turned in 76-74 on his rounds on the par 71 course alongside Alex Malanga bringing up the rear with 76-78 and two birdies to end round two, giving the Bearkats a one stroke lead over Lipscomb.
