HUNTVILLE — The nationally ranked Sam Houston Bowling Program is proud to announce to the 2025 campaign recent signee Abigail "Abby" Burke.
Â
Burke, from Pinellas Park, Florida, will join the Bearkats as one of the most competitive youth athletes to come out of the Sunshine State in 2025.Â
Â
"Abigail is very competitive on the lanes and her enthusiasm is something that is very infectious and what we are looking for each year," head coach Brad Hagen said "She's traveled all over the country competing at a high level which makes her aligned to handle our regimented scheduling. Among her peers, she's excelled at the youth national and Florida state level which is experience worth noting."
Â
Over the last year Burke has seen a lot of success locally and nationally. Most recently, she took second place at the AYBT Brunswick Youth Experience event (averaging 208.5 pins per games), All Events Champion at the 19th Annual GTBA Youth City Tournament, in Tampa, a first-place finish for the FHSAA District 10 - Individual Qualifier for States, as well as a fourth-place individual finish at the FHSAA State Championships which included a 300 game rolled during match play.Â
Â
Additionally, Burke also posted a first-place finish in the 12th Grade Girls High School Singles Championship division (averaging 223.15). Along with those great honors, she was the first ever girl in Pinellas County to roll a 300 during high school competition and the only high school girl to roll a perfect game in 2024 high school competition in the state.
"At the end of the day we need individuals on this roster who are going to push themselves every day without reservation in the classroom and on the lanes," Hagen said. "I believe Abby can excel on and off the lanes and at the highest level which is a priority. Abby's competitive spirit and want to be excelling at the highest level will serve as huge motivation for her to attack the NCAA Collegiate Bowling world."
The two-year captain of Pinellas High School and awarded Most Valuable Player, off the lanes has served her sport and community as the vice president, Youth Leaders for the Florida State USBC (2023-25) and the Youth Committee President, for the Gulf Coast USBC association (2021 – present).
Burke intends to major in criminal justice at Sam Houston, which ranks among the best universities in that field in the United States.
