HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston softball split a pair of games on Day 3 of the Bearkat Classic on Saturday, rallying to take down Tulsa before falling in the nightcap to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Kats (3-1) won their third straight game of the weekend against Tulsa in their first outing, erasing an early 1-0 deficit by tying it in the bottom of the fifth and then ultimately taking the lead 2-1 when
Brodie Quinlan led off the sixth with a solo homer. Catcher
Bella Perez followed later in the inning, adding two runs of insurance with a blast over the left-field wall to quell the Hurricane (2-1).
Sam Houston's luck ran out in the nigthcap, however, as the Islanders (2-3) opened up a 3-0 lead and held off a late Bearkat rally to earn their second win of the weekend.
The Kats will close out the opening weekend with a game vs No. 2 Texas on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
