HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team closed out the 2025 Bearkat Classic in front of a sold-out crowd on Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats drew 752 fans but fell 8-3 to No. 2 Texas to finish the weekend 3-2.
Freshman Karrlauhn Deas made an impact, launching a two-run homer as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh in her first official at-bat in a Sam Houston uniform. Transfer Bella Perez put the Kats on the board earlier with a solo shot in the fifth for her second home run of the season. Those were the only hits for the Bearkats in the game.
Texas wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning off starter Kendall Daniel, who allowed two hits before being relieved by freshman Tiffany Sanchez.
Sanchez struck out four in five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, including three scoreless frames against the Longhorns. Makenzi Jenkins closed out the game for the Kats, recording the final out.
The Bearkats return to action Tuesday, hosting Stephen F. Austin at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
