HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston got the big hits early to back
Amy Abke's solid performance in the circle to take down Houston Christian 4-2 on Tuesday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (12-13) have won three games in a row following a pair of wins over WKU over the weekend.
Bella Perez,
Elia Hebel and
Jenny Robison each drove in runs, and Abke struck out a career-high 11 batters to earn the victory and improve to 4-6 on the season.
The Bearkats struck first when Kayla Heine reached on a dropped third strike and stole second base. She moved to third on a grounder then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Robison.
Sam Houston added the winning runs in the third when Perez ripped an RBI double to right center which scored
Kinsey Hobbs, who led off with a walk. A single by Robison sent Perez to third, and she scored on a hit by Hebel.
The Huskies managed a run in the fourth and the seventh, but it was not enough as the Bearkats added a run on an error in the fifth.
Sam Houston hits the road for the first time in Conference USA play this weekend when the Kats take on Middle Tennessee in a three-game series. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
