HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats will go in search of a ranked win on Tuesday when they travel to Austin to take on No. 7 Texas in midweek action at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Kats' trek to Austin will be streamed on SEC Network+ and can be followed via Statbroadcast or on social media by following @BearkatsBSB on X and Instagram.
Sam Houston added three wins to its season total last week, taking two from Houston and one from Louisiana Tech in the Conference USA opener; but the Kats will get a stiff challenge from the Longhorns who have surged up the national rankings after getting off to a 19-3 start in head coach Jim Schlossnagle's first season at the helm.
The Horns have won five of six games in SEC play, taking two of three from LSU over the weekend in Austin. Sam Houston will be looking to snap an 11-game skid to Texas which dates back to 2015 and get its first non-conference true road win over a ranked opponent since 2017.
The Kats hand the ball to Danny Valadez to open the night in what will be his first start as a Bearkat. He leads SHSU with a dozen appearances out of the pen and has a pair of saves along with two wins, each coming vs Houston last week.
The midweek will serve as the first of four straight road games on the slate for the week for the Kats as they will follow Tuesday's game in Austin with a 3-game set at WKU beginning Friday night in Bowling Green, Ky.
