LAS CRUCES, NM. – The Sam Houston women's basketball team could not pull off the win in 64-56 loss to New Mexico State on Saturday at the Pan American Center.
The Bearkats (12-16, 5-13 CUSA) locked in the eight seed for the conference tournament.
The Bearkats entered halftime down 34-20, and Deborah Ogaymei was the sole Bearkat in double figures with 10 points.
The Kats used great defense to hold the Aggies scoreless for three-minutes to get within 7 points in the third quarter.
Sam Houston got within 6 points in the fourth. However, the Aggies pulled away for the win.
Ogayemi recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.
Nyla Inmon led the Kats with a career-high 24 points, and
Kyleigh McGuire had 10 rebounds.
The Bearkats will face No. 9 seeded Jax State at 11:30 a.m. at the CUSA conference tournament in Huntsville, Ala. On March 11. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
