HUNTSVILLE — Elia Hebel picked an opportune time to get going at the plate as she led Sam Houston to a series-clinching 2-0 victory Sunday over Western Kentucky to open Conference USA play at Bearkat Softball Complex.
Hebel, who cranked out a pair of home runs in an 8-4 victory on Saturday, produced the game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the third Sunday. After
Bella Perez walked and moved to third on a single by
Jenny Robison, who also advanced on the play, Hebel dropped a lazy popup into shallow left field to plate both runners.
In the meantime,
Kendall Daniel was dealing in the circle. She allowed just three hits in seven innings to shutout the Hilltoppers to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Sam Houston is now 2-1 to begin league play and upped its overall record to 11-13, while WKU dropped to 1-2 and 14-8.
The Bearkats will host HCU on Tuesday in a midweek matchup at 6 p.m.
