HUNTSVILLE – Middle Tennessee won both the doubles point and three singles matches to defeated Sam Houston 4-0 in a Conference USA women's tennis match Friday afternoon at the Beckner Tennis Center.
The contest was the first of two matches this weekend as the Bearkats close their 2025 home schedule. Sunday morning the Kats complete their regular schedule versus a Liberty squad carrying a 10-11 overall record.
With only five players available to play, Sam Houston was forced to default one doubles set and two singles contests. Action was stopped when Middle Tennessee clinched the team win. The Kats were battling in close matches in the Nos. 2, 4 and 5 contests when the contest was stopped.
Christine Jevicky led Ilaira Sposetti, Ilaria 6-2, 5-5 in the number two singles.
Aaliyah Hohmann was going into a third set with Rutuja Chaphalkar 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 and
Ella Fitcher was still dueling after splitting sets with Cassidey Matala at 6-4 2-6
.
The Kats will participate in the annual Conference USA postseason tournament in Lynchburg, Va., April 17-19. The winner of the conference postseason event will earn the league's 2025 NCAA National Championships automatic berth.
