Kats draw Jax State in CUSA Tournament opener

DALLAS – Sam Houston will duel with Jax State in the opening round of the 2025 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Wednesday, April 16, when the event begins hosted by Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Jax State enters as the No. 7 seed in the event while the Kats hold the No. 10 spot. The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to the quarterfinals to take on No. 2 seed Middle Tennessee.

A live stream on ESPN+ and live scoring will be available for each match of the 2025 CUSA Tournament.

Tournament seeding is based on the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings with FIU going in as the top overall seed.

The second opening-day match pits No. 8 NM State against No. 9 UTEP.  Quarterfinal matches Thursday include No. 4 Kennesaw State versus No. 5Liberty, No. 1 FIU versus the winner of UTEP/NMSU winner and No. 3 Louisiana Tech versus No. 6 WKU.

The semifinals are scheduled for Friday and the championship final will take place on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.

Last year in Sam Houston's first trip to the CUSA postseason event the Bearkats fell to UTEP in the first round. Top playoff finishes for the program include a semifinal appearance in the WAC Tournament in 2022 and a runner-up finish in the 2019 Southland Conference event.
