HUNTSVILLE - Hunter Autrey hit a grand slam and had five RBI for the second straight game, but again the big innings were too much for the Sam Houston Bearkats as they closed a 9-game hometstand with an 18-9 loss to Lamar on Tuesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
The Kats (8-29) erased the deficit of allowing a 6-run second inning with seven unanswered runs, going up 7-6 on Autrey's grand slam in the fourth and upping the lead to 9-6 on a 2-run double by
Parker Blackman in the sixth; however, the Cardinals (31-8) touched the Kats up for 11 runs in the top of the seventh and easily held on from there.
Lamar's Brayden Evans homered twice and drove in seven runs for the Cardinals to aid winning pitcher Joshua Shimmin who was one of 17 combined pitchers to see time on the hill.
Micky Scheetz took his first loss as a Kat, while freshman
Tate Hickman turned in the best performance of any SHSU hurler with 3.0 scoreless frames and four strikeouts.
