DALLAS – DBU crushed four home runs and scored early and often en route to an 17-4 win in seven innings over Sam Houston in the series opener at Horner Ballpark on Thursday night.
The Patriots (26-11, 9-4 CUSA) struck for five runs in the first inning and then blasted three straight solo home runs with two outs in the second to quickly open the game up on their home field. They went on to score in each of their six at-bats, putting starter Micah Bucknam in line for the win to move him to 6-1 on the year.
Bearkat starter Noah Kendrick was coming off his strongest outing of the year last week vs Kennesaw State, but fell victim to the red-hot DBU offense, lasting only 2.0 innings before ultimately falling to 0-6 on the year with the loss.
The Kats finished with eight hits in total, pushing across four runs in the top of the seventh on a 2-run double by Parker Blackman and an RBI from Easton Dean. Brady Christensen and Blake Brown also picked up doubles earlier in the game.
