LYNCHBURG, Va. — Sam Houston fell 7-4 to No. 22 Liberty on Saturday at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Bearkats (24-23, 12-9 CUSA) dropped the series two games to one despite having hit a home run in 10 of the last 11 games, including Allie Saville's game-winner on Friday.
The Flames put up four runs in the second inning to take control of the finale Saturday.
Morgan Holliday answered with a solo home run in the third, her fifth on the year.
The Flames did not score again until the sixth inning where they added three more runs.
Starter Kendall Daniel (6-6) received the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits for Sam Houston.
The Bearkats loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh to give them one more chance at tying it or taking the lead. Sam Houston was able to add three runs on defensive miscues but fell short in the end.
Abigail Young came in to pitch in relief for the Kats and had three scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Makenzi Jenkins came in and was able to close out the inning.
Sam Houston will head to Jax State for a weekend CUSA series next weekend. The games can be followed on StatBroadcast.
