BEAUMONT — Sam Houston held off a late push from Lamar to secure a 3-2 midweek victory Tuesday evening at LU Softball Stadium.
The Bearkats (25-23, 13-9 CUSA) jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning before Lamar had a chance to swing the bat.
Kyla Henie scored on an error, and Brodie Quinlan followed with a two-run single to give Sam Houston a 3-0 advantage.
Lamar responded with a pair of runs in the fifth, but the Bearkats held on.
Kendall Daniel (7-6) earned the win, allowing one earned run on five hits across five innings.
Abigail Young recorded her second save of the season, striking out two with a pair of runners on base in the final inning to seal the victory.
