Kats tied for fifth after opening round of CUSA Championship

Texarkana, Ark. – The Sam Houston men's golf team fired a round of 291 and stands tied for fifth place after the opening round of the Conference USA Championships on Monday, played at Texarkana Country Club.

Josh German and Ethan Dufresne led the way with a round of 71, which has him tied for ninth individually after the first 18. German played consistent after shooting one birdie in the front 9 and later another birdie in the back 9. Dufresne finished strong shooting four birdies in the back 9.

Hugo Trommetter turned in a 74 putting him 23rd overall after shooting five birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. Bret Gray came in right behind him with a 75 after starting hot with a birdie on the second hole. Gene Chaikangwal closed out the Kats' day with a 77.

Liberty leads the eight-team field with team rounds of 277 heading into day two. Middle Tennessee is behind the Flames, shooting 3-under (285) on the day.

The Kats will tee off for round two of the CUSA Championships at 8 a.m. from Texarkana Country Club. Sam Houston will be paired with UTEP and New Mexico State.

Live Scoring will be via Scoreboard by Clipped with updating scores throughout the round as well as results at the end of each day.
