Kats secure the 2nd seed of match play at CUSA Championship

TEXARKANA, ARK. – The Sam Houston men's golf team secured the second seed after firing a team round of 277 and will take plenty of momentum heading into the Thursday's match-play portion of the Conference USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club
The Bearkats, who finished at -9 as a team in stroke play, will take on Kennesaw head-to-head on Thursday morning for the berth in Thursday afternoon's championship match. The Owls finished -3 for stroke play, including going -4 on Wednesday.
Liberty will be the top seed after finishing at -11 and will take on No. 4 seed UTEP (-2) in the other semifinals.
The Kats will tee off on hole No. 10 at 8 a.m. against the Owls, while the Flames and Miners will start on hole No. 1. The winners will square off in the afternoon for the title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Individual play closed after Wednesday's stroke play with New Mexico State's Aidan Thomas taking the individual title at -8 for the week. SHSU's top finisher was Hugo Trommetter at -6, placing third overall after a final round of 69.
Trommetter shot 74-66-69 after shooting three birdies, two bogeys and an eagle on the 16th hole in the final round. Bret Gray was just behind him shooting 75-71-67, moving up 17 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 6th overall. Gray made no mistakes firing off five birdies and turning in his best round of the week.
Ethan Dufresne finished 71-73-72 after his three rounds, shooting even (72) on the day with three birdies and three bogeys to finish in 16th. Josh German turned in 71-74-72 finishing just behind Dufresne in 21st, closing out the day with three birdies and three bogeys.
Gene Chaikangwal closed out the week in a tie for 36th with a final round of 75.
The semifinal match will be aired on ESPN+ starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday followed by the final match at 1 p.m. Live Scoring will be via Scoreboard by Clipped with updating scores throughout the round as well as results at the end of each day.
