INDIANAPOLIS – The Sam Houston men's golf team learned its NCAA destination on Wednesday afternoon and will head west to take part in the NCAA Reno Regional at Montreux Golf & Country Club.
The Bearkats will be the No. 11 seed in the 14-team field with the tournament to be held May 12-14. It is the program's fifth all-time NCAA regional berth and first as a team and first since 2021.
The regional, hosted by Nevada, is one of six 54-hole regional tournaments. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Team and individual medalist national titles will be decided May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Sam Houston earned its way into the field by taking the title last week at the Conference USA Championship in Texarkana, defeating Kennesaw State and UTEP in match play to get the bid.
The Kats enter the NCAA Tournament with a No. 66 national ranking and wins at the Git-R-Done Classic and the Bayou City Collegiate in September, in addition to claiming the CUSA title last week.
