HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston had to rally from behind to secure a CUSA series win with 5-2 victory over FIU on Sunday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (20-21, 8-7 CUSA) used three home runs to power past the Panthers, a day after dropping an 8-4 decision to FIU which evened the series. Sam Houston won the opener 6-3 on Friday night.
Bella Perez smashed her second home run of the series to put the Kats on the board in the first inning.
The Panthers scored two runs in the second on an RBI and an error by the Bearkat defense.
Elia Hebel hit a solo home run over the left-field wall in the third to tie it up 2 two runs apiece.
Morgan Holliday got in on the home run action and hit a two-run shot in the fourth. This was her second home run of the series and put the Kats up 4-2.
Hebel turned on her wheels with a stand-up triple in the sixth that would allow the Kats to score on a Jenny Robison RBI single.
Young (4-5) received her second win of the series, pitching the full seven innings. She allowed one earned run on eight hits and collected two strikeouts.
Sam Houston will take a midweek break and host UTEP next weekend. The games can be followed on StatBroadcast.
