HUNTSVILLE – Hunter Autrey had three hits and Brady Christensen hit a 2-run homer, but FIU scored six times in the middle innings to secure a series victory with a 7-4 win over Sam Houston on Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
Sam Houston (12-42, 6-20 CUSA) trailed 3-1 going to the bottom of the third inning before Christensen tied things with a 2-run blast to right field, his 10th long ball of the year. Two batters later the Kats went ahead on a single by Parker Blackman and an FIU error, allowing Jace Martinez to come home and make it 4-3.
But FIU's Kishon Frett cranked a 2-run homer of his own in the top of the fourth, his 20th blast of the season, to put FIU quickly back in front. The Panthers went on to score single runs in each of the next two innings to make a winner of reliever Julian Mlodzinkski, while Logan Runde struck out four batters in 4.0 shutout innings of relief for his first save of the year.
Cam Diaz fell to 1-6 for the Kats with the loss. Garrett Baumann followed with one of his strongest outings of the year, logging 5.0 innings of relief with five strikeouts and only one earned run allowed.
