HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston women's golf made a pair of key additions to its roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season with the recent adds of Franky Sumcad and Jasmijn Villhaber.
The Bearkats went to the transfer portal to snag Sumcad, who has spent the last two seasons at Colorado, while Villhaber joins the program from the international prep ranks.
"We are excited to have both Franky and Jasmijn join the Bearkat family," Bearkat head women's coach Lake Leroux said. "Each are very good additions to our program and we are looking forward to having them on campus and helping us continue to compete at a high level."
Sumcad comes to Sam Houston from Colorado where she competed for the Buffaloes each of the past two seasons. She played in eight events as a true freshman in 2023-24 with a stroke average of 75.91 over 23 rounds, which was the sixth-best mark in relation to par by a freshman in CU history.
"Franky has had an impressive junior golf career and brings a lot of collegiate golf experience from competing in high-level events," Leroux said. "She is a mature player who manages well on the golf course."
She also placed 15th that year at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and won the 2025 Southern Colorado Open with scores of 68-72 (-4).
A native of San Jose, Calif., she won both the San Jose City Junior Championship and Bay View Junior Championship in 2022 and later that year qualified for the US Women's Amateur Four-Ball competition.
Villhaber, meanwhile, joins the Kats as a true freshman from The Netherlands where she put together a strong resume on the junior golf circuit. She placed seventh at the 2023 Dutch Amateur Championship with rounds of 78-73-71-71 and followed that showing with an even stronger 2024 which included representing her country in the 2024 European Girls Team Championship.
She also won the 2024 Utopia Youth Masters with rounds of 77-72-76 and placed second in the 2024 Tulip Golf Challenge with scores of 77-74-77.
"Jasmijn is such a solid ball-striker who brings a lot of passion for the game," Leroux said. "Additionally, she has a very strong work ethic which aligns perfectly with our program."
