HUNTSVILLE — Lamar scored two goals in the first half to knock off Sam Houston 3-1 at Pritchett Field on Sunday night.
The Cardinals scored in the fourth minute to take a quick lead then added what would prove to be the game winner 14 minutes later. The first goal came off a rebound on a corner kick.
The Bearkats (1-2-1) found a way to finally break through late in the first half.
Indigo Sims crossed the ball to the right side of the box, and
Gianna Gomez punched it in with a header for her first career goal at Sam Houston to trim it to 2-1 in the 32
nd minute.
The Cardinals added another goal in the second half to put the game out of reach. The Kats outshot Lamar, but the Cardinals' keeper finished with three saves.
Sam Houston hits the road for four straight matches beginning at Grand Canyon on Friday in Phoenix. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
