CORPUS CHRISTI — The Sam Houston volleyball team will be on the road this weekend to participate in the Islanders Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Bearkats will take part in three matches for the event where they will be joined by Tarleton, Prairie View and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Sam Houston will start the weekend with a single match on Friday at 3 p.m. against Tarleton. The Kats then continue the weekend at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Prairie View and finish the tournament at 4 p.m. against the Islanders Saturday evening

The Kats have won three of their last four matches, most recently picking up a 3-1 win on Tuesday at home over Lamar. They took the first set, dropped the second, then bounced back to claim the third and fourth sets, securing a 3-1 victory.
Sam Houston has looked good offensively this year, hitting .228 as a team, led by freshman Chloe Monson's team-best 3.76 kills per set. Lauren Malone also averages 3.00 kills per set while Chelsea Butler is off to a fast start to 2025, accounting for 2.33 kills per set and a .361 attack percentage.
Defensively, Shaelin White is averaging 5.07 digs per set with no less than 17 digs in any match this season.
The Bearkats are undefeated against both Tarleton and Prairie View with a combined all-time mark of 17-0. They are also 25-19 all-time against the Islanders, a former Southland rival who they will face for the first time since 2023.
