HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Sam Houston men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the 2026 Conference USA Cross Country Championships Saturday, Oct. 31, at John Hunt Park.
The women's 6K race will begin at 9 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8K at 10 a.m. CT. Both races will feature conference teams competing for individual and team championships.
Sam Houston enters the postseason ranked seventh in the men's preseason coaches' poll and 10th on the women's side. The Bearkats will look to improve on their performances from last year's championship, when the men's team finished eighth and the women placed 10th.
Mario Ruiz led the Bearkat men with a 13th-place finish in 24:16.25, earning second-team All-CUSA honors. Klever Torres finished 60th in 26:20.26, followed by Anthony Perez in 61st with a time of 26:20.83.
On the women's side, Sophia Phillip paced Sam Houston with a 33rd-place finish in 21:38.63. Zerah Martinez followed in 36th place with a time of 21:42.56.
The Bearkats will look to build on those performances as they return to John Hunt Park for another opportunity to compete for conference honors.
