Kats post solid performance in Lubbock

LUBBOCK – The Sam Houston Bearkats indoor track and field team turned in another strong showing Saturday at the Jarvis Scott Invitational, hosted by Texas Tech at the Sports Performance Center.
Freshman Nora Ryan led the way on the women's side, capturing first place in the 800 meters with a winning time of 2:09.81. Ryan also doubled back in the mile, finishing 15th overall in 5:08.32. She was joined in the 800 by Sophia Phillip (2:18.98), Ami Clark (2:21.09), Avery Brown (2:21.41), and Bailey Cheshire (2:26.25), showcasing strong depth in the middle-distance group.
In the sprints, Ayana Mallard-Smith clocked a 7.72 in the 60 meters, while Michayla Ivory followed with a 7.94. The men's 60-meter group was led by sophomore Xzamion Parker, who placed fifth overall with a time of 6.69. Javain Johnson, Tyriq Brunn, Ikenna Opara, Jensen Harley, Omarion Ferguson, and Nathan Williams all recorded solid times in a competitive field.
The men's 800 meters featured a standout performance from Caleb Anthony, who placed sixth with a time of 1:50.35. Anthony also competed in the 400 meters, while Christian Rohlack added a sixth-place finish in the 600 yards, crossing the line in 1:10.78.
On the women's side of the 400 meters, Jayden Piper finished 10th overall in 54.47 and later added a time of 24.39 in the 200 meters. Piper, along with Alyssa Jolly, Amaya Kennison-Jenkins, Emmanuella Squire, and Mallard-Smith, contributed across multiple sprint events.
Both relay squads delivered competitive efforts, with the women's 4x400 relay placing eighth in 3:43.71 and the men's 4x400 finishing 13th in 3:12.21.
In the field events, Taniah Coleman earned a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.81 meters. On the men's side, Matthew Jackson recorded a 6.82-meter-long jump. Dylan Truss led the pole vault group with a 10th-place finish after clearing 4.98 meters, while Jeremiah Jackson cleared 2.05 meters in the high jump.
Throwing events were highlighted by Breanna Murphy, who placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 14.05 meters. Mateo Ortiz and John Hanson represented the men in the shot put, while Nikos Fotinopoulos competed in the weight throw.
The Bearkats will compete next at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, beginning Friday, February 27, at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg.
