THE WOODLANDS – The Sam Houston Bearkats women's golf team will host its first tournament of the season, opening the 2026 spring schedule at the inaugural Texas Golf Throwdown, beginning Monday, February 16, at the West Course at The Woodlands Country Club.
The two-day event, hosted by the Bearkats, will feature 54 holes of competition, with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
The par-72 West Course measures 6,296 yards and features wide, tree-lined fairways and large greenside bunkers that place a premium on accuracy into undulating greens. Scenic water views on the 18th hole provide a challenging finish, with touch and lag putting playing a key role throughout the round.
The field includes a strong group of teams such as Austin Peay, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, No. 40 Iowa State, Middle Tennessee, Montana State, Murray State, Nebraska, Oral Roberts, St. Thomas, Tarleton State, No. 6 Texas A&M, Texas State, and UT Arlington.
Last season, Sam Houston captured the team title at its hosted Bearkat Invitational, led by Amelia Guo's runner-up finish after posting three rounds of 69. Veteran Gracie Heinle tied for fifth at 10-over par.
The Bearkats closed the fall season with a tie for 10th place at the Ally, competing against a stacked field that included No. 5 Florida and No. 16 Mississippi State. Sam Houston finished ahead of Iowa by eight strokes and topped 2024 Conference USA Championship runner-up Jacksonville State by 12 strokes.
Live scoring will be available throughout the event via Clippd, with updated results provided following each round.
