Kats Fall to Bears

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston dropped a 6–3 decision to Baylor in a midweek matchup Wednesday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Bears (12–4) struck early with a two-run double in the top of the first. The Bearkats (11–6) responded in the bottom half when Bella Perez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.Â
Sam Houston kept it a one-run game until the fifth inning, when Baylor pushed its lead to 4–1. The Kats answered in the sixth as Perez singled up the middle to drive in another run, following a shutout inning by the Bearkat defense. Baylor added two insurance runs in the seventh and held Sam Houston scoreless in the final frame to secure the win.Â
Sophia Lundstrom led the Bearkats with two hits, while Perez led with two RBIs. Veronica Harrison added a double.Â
Sam Houston now turns its attention to the Oklahoma Tournament in Norman, where the Bearkats will face Alabama State, Oklahoma and Southeastern Louisiana. The tournament runs Friday, Feb. 27, through Sunday, March 1, at Loves Field.Â
