NORMAN, OK. — Sam Houston shut out ASU 6-0 before falling to Oklahoma 13-3 in five innings Friday afternoon at Love's Field to open tournament play.

The Bearkats (12-7) took an early lead in the second inning on a home run by Veronica Harrison.

The Kats extended its advantage over the Hornets (6-13) across the final three innings to secure the 6-0 win.

Bella Perez joined Harrison in the home run rally, driving in Jordan Peno. The Bearkats limited ASU to five hits and stranded six runners.

Perez led the team with two hits. Tiffany Sanchez earned the win in the circle, pitching five innings and recording six strikeouts.

Oklahoma 13, Sam Houston 3 (5 inn.)

The Bearkats held the Sooners (15-2) to one run in the first inning and kept them scoreless in the second.

The Kats took a brief lead in the third on a home run from Jordan Peno, her second of the season. Oklahoma responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to regain control.

The Sooners added eight runs in the fourth inning and closed out the run-rule victory with a three-up, three-down fifth.

Cassie Marshall made her season debut in the circle in the fourth inning, allowing one hit and no runs.

The Bearkats continue play at the Oklahoma Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 28, facing ASU at 11:30 a.m. before meeting Oklahoma again at 2 p.m.
