Kats cap trip to Lake Charles with win

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Sam Houston beach volleyball picked up its first win of 2026 on Saturday, capping a weekend at the Cowgirl Beach Bash with a win over Nicholls at the South Beach Complex.

The Kats' No. 1 duo of Michaela Panekova and Tatum Lockhardt won three of their four matches on the weekend, including a dominating 21-7, 21-9 win over Nicholls' top pair in the sweep of the Colonels.

Sam Houston picked up single points in each head-to-head matchup, but dropped competitions to UMHB, McNeese and A&M-Kingsville before finallly downing the Colonels. Panakova/Lockhardt provided those scores on Friday against UMHB and McNeese, while Laelah Quezada and Hayley Masiero scored a point in the match with A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.

The Kats will next head to Belton for the UMHBeach Bash on March 6-7 with matches scheduled against A&M-Kingsville, UMHB, Central Arkansas and Tarleton
