Kats close UMHBeach Bash

BELTON, Texas — The Sam Houston beach volleyball team dropped a trio of matches over the weekend at the UMHBeach Bash on Friday and Saturday before inclement weather brought the event to an early halt. Â
The Kats (1-10) dropped matches to both A&M-Kingsville and UMHB on Friday before falling 4-1 to Central Arkansas in its lone match on Saturday. Sam Houston pushed the host Crusaders in the second match of Friday with the No. 1 tandem of Michaela Panekova and Tatum Lockhardt along with the No. 4 pair of Ella Folse and Avery Fowler each picking up wins; however, UMHB got wins on the Nos. 2 and 3 courts before the pair of Presmanes-Garate/Briggs outlasted the Bearkat duo of Laelah Quezada and Liliana Chuong in three sets for the win.Â
UCA claimed four of the five courts on Saturday morning with the lone Bearkat point coming from the No. 2 pair of Lexi Higgins and Kate Smith. The Kats were scheduled to take on Tarleton in the weekend finale, but the event was called early due to inclement weather.Â
The Kats will next compete on March 20-21 in the Sunshine State when they take part in the Eagle Invitational, hosted by FGCU. There they will battle Palm Beach State College, FGCU, Jacksonville and FIU.Â
