Aggies hand Kats midweek loss

COLLEGE STATION – The No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies scored 15 runs in their final three at-bats to hand the Sam Houston Bearkats a 16-2 loss in seven innings on Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park.

The Bearkats (14-14) had tied the game at 1-1 in the third on an RBI double by Jeric Curtis, but the Aggies (23-5) finally cashed in on their third bases-loaded inning in the fourth with five runs to open it up and get the second win of the year on the ledger of reliever Grant Cunningham who logged 2.2 innings of work.

Things went downhill from there as the Aggies delivered five of their nine extra-base hits in the fifth and sixth inning. Gavin Grahovac had two of those extra-base hits with a homer and two doubles, while Caden Sorrell had a pair of doubles and three RBI.

Mason Murphy, Gabe Winans and Connor Mondey each logged quality innings on a staff pitching night to open the game, but Texas A&M finally got to lefty Jakob Holzer in the fourth, taking advantage of three walks to drop his record to 0-3 on the year.

Ryan Franden joined Curtis with an RBI, extending his hit streak to seven games with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

UP NEXT
Sam Houston will next head to Springfield, Mo., for the first time to take on Missouri State in a 3-game set beginning Friday at Hammons Field. Friday's game is not set to be broadcast in Springfield, while the final two are scheduled to be aired on ESPN+.
