HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston pitcher Ryan Peterson has earned midseason recognition from both Baseball America and Perfect Game, per releases from the outlets on Monday.Â
The junior from Shiner, Texas has been named to Baseball America's 2026 Midseason Pitcher of the Year watch list in addition to Perfect Game's Midseason All-America third team. Â
Peterson has garnered such attention thanks to a strong start to his 2026 season, most recently earning CUSA Pitcher of the Week honors after carding a complete-game, 1-hit shutout of WKU on Friday in the Bearkats' series opener vs the Hilltoppers. Â
The effort was the first complete-game shutout for a Bearkat pitcher since Heath Donica punched out 14 Nevada in a 1-hit effort of his own on Opening Night in 2017.Â
Peterson is one of just 15 arms from across the country to land on Baseball America's Midseason Pitcher of the Year watch list. He and Liberty's Ben Blair are two of just three pitchers from non-Power 4 schools on the list. The other is UC Santa Barbara's Jackson Flora, who BA has tabbed as the No. 1 pitching prospect on the board for the 2026 MLB Draft. Â
Meanwhile, Peterson is joined by Jax State's Eli Pillsbury, Auburn's Jake Marciano, Oregon's Will Sanford, Texas' Dylan Volantis and West Virginia's Max Yehl on Perfect Game's midseason third team. Â
Peterson currently carries a 3-3 record and 1.43 ERA for the year, which ranks third in CUSA. He currently leads the league with 44.0 innings pitched and ranks second in strikeouts (57) and opposing batting average (.166). Â
Peterson is next scheduled to take the hill on Friday in the opener of a 3-game set at Missouri State, beginning Friday night in Springfield, Mo.Â
