HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston dropped Game 2 of its series against Missouri State, 9-1, in a run-rule decision Saturday afternoon at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Bears (18-21, 6-11 CUSA) seized momentum early, holding the Bearkats (26-19, 10-7 CUSA) scoreless through four innings. Missouri State broke through in the third with an RBI double, then extended its lead in the fourth with back-to-back home runs, including a grand slam by the third baseman.Â
The Bears added three more runs in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead.Â
Sam Houston showed signs of life in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases and pushing one run across, but could not sustain the rally. The Bearkats finished with four hits, with Sophia Lundstrom and Kinsey Hobbs each recording a double.Â
Abigail Young started in the circle for Sam Houston and recorded two strikeouts. Makenzi Jenkins entered in relief and added one strikeout.Â
The Bearkats will conclude the series at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
