HUNTSVILLE, — Sam Houston closed out its series against Missouri State with a 9-1 run-rule victory Sunday afternoon at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Bearkats (27-19, 11-7 Conference USA) took an early lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Peyton Helmly. Sam Houston added to its advantage in the second when Sophia Lundstrom delivered a two-run triple.Â
Missouri State (18-22, 6-12 CUSA) responded in the top of the third inning with four hits off Kendall Daniel. Lauren Rowland drove in the Bears' lone run with an RBI single to right field.Â
Both teams were held scoreless over the next two innings before the Bearkats broke through in the sixth. Lundstrom ignited the rally with a two-run double, followed by RBI singles from Helmly and Abbey Papadimitriou.Â
Sam Houston secured the run-rule victory in the sixth inning, 9-1.Â
Lundstrom led the Bearkats at the plate, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. She also extended her team lead with 14 doubles this season. Daniel earned the win in the circle, recording three strikeouts. Tiffany Sanchez provided relief, tossing two hitless innings with no runs or walks allowed.Â
Sam Houston will continue conference play next weekend, traveling to Ruston, Louisiana, for a three-game series against Louisiana Tech. The games will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
