RUSTON, La. — Sam Houston shut down Louisiana Tech in a pitcher's duel, 6-1, Friday night at Billy Bundrick Field in Ruston, Louisiana.

The Bulldogs (22-22, 8-11 CUSA) took an early lead, retiring the Bearkats (28-19, 12-7 CUSA) in order in the first inning and getting on the board with a home run from Alannah Rogers.

Sam Houston answered in the second inning with a home run from Peyton Helmly, her seventh of the season.

Both teams remained scoreless through the fifth inning, with Louisiana Tech holding the Bearkats to one hit. Bulldogs pitcher Allie Floyd limited Sam Houston to one hit, one run and struck out seven through five innings.

The Bearkats broke through in the sixth inning when Bella Perez doubled down the left-field line, driving in Sophia Lundstrom to give Sam Houston a 2-1 lead. Helmly followed with her second home run of the night, extending the lead to 4-1 and marking her eighth of the season.

Sam Houston added insurance runs in the seventh inning as Morgan Holliday doubled down the left-field line, driving in two runs to make it 6-1.

The Bearkats sealed the win with a three-up, three-down inning in the seventh.

Tiffany Sanchez pitched a complete game to earn her 11th win of the season, recording six strikeouts and issuing no walks.

Saturday's game time has been moved to 11 a.m. due to weather concerns. The game will be available on ESPN+.
